7. 貸別荘の利用 Using rental cottages
但し、貸別荘として運営されている物件には、快適に過ごせないものも多いので注意（覚悟）してください。オーナーが「那須に来るのも年に数回だし、せめて貸別荘にでも･･･」という小遣い稼ぎ的な動機で始めた物件も多く、設備もあまり良くない場合が多いようです。それでも一軒屋に実際に宿泊してみるのは貴重な体験です。貸別荘は自分達が実際に別荘を建築する時の教訓だと思って利用するのも良いでしょう。 However, please note that many rental cottages are not comfortable to stay in. Some owners started renting out their houses with the simple motive of making some extra money, thinking “I only come to Nasu a few times a year, so I might as well rent it out.” Such places often do not have good facilities. なお、貸別荘を利用するなら、夏に利用しても良い面しか分からないので、敢えて冬に利用することをお薦めします。那須の強烈な寒さに対処するには何が必要か？身を持って体験ができるはずです。カオリは冬に貸別荘を利用したときに、大型のストーブをガンガン炊かないと暖まらないという現実と、朝晩の部屋の強烈な寒さが印象的でした。朝起きたときには部屋の中でも息が白くなる･･･それが那須では当たり前なのかと思っていました。ところがペンション「サライ」さんに宿泊した時に、僅かな暖房で一日中暖かい部屋を初めて体験して、「建物って、設計仕様によってこんなにも違うんだあ」と感動したのを覚えています。 If you use a rental cottage, I recommend staying there in winter rather than in summer. In summer you can only see the good side, but in winter you can experience what is really necessary to cope with the severe cold of Nasu. When I used a rental cottage in winter, I was impressed by the reality that I had to run a large stove at full power or the room would not get warm, and by the strong cold in the room in the morning and at night. When I got up in the morning, I could see my breath even inside the room, and I thought that was normal in Nasu. However, when I stayed at Pension “Sarai,” I experienced for the first time a room that stayed warm all day long with only a small amount of heating. I was deeply impressed and thought, “The comfort of a building can be so different depending on its design and specifications.”
ひとくちに“別荘”といってもそのレベルは様々です。何よりも自分達が別荘を持つことになった時のイメージを具体的につかむこと、そしてそれが自分達にとって本当に楽しいことであるかどうかを自問すること、そして別荘が欲しい気持ちがどのくらいあるのかを再確認することは、大事なプロセスだと思います。そして貸別荘の間取りを見て「自分だったらこうするのに」とか、「何でこんなふうにしてあるんだろう」と疑問に思ったことは大切に記憶に刻んでおきましょう。それは実際に自分達が別荘を建築する際にとても役立つ知識となります。 The word “vacation house” can mean many different levels of quality.
