Nasukogen Kashiwaya (Usukawa Manju)

"Usukawa Manju" is one of Japan's three major manju and is said to be the first hot spring manju.
At Nasukogen Kashiwaya, you can eat freshly made Usukawa Manju and other sweets.

Usukawa Manju is said to be the original hot spring manju. It is one of Japan's Three Great Manju.
They are: (1) Kashiwaya's Usukawa Manju, first served to travelers in 1852 in Koriyama, Fukushima, on the Oshu Highway from Edo to the north; (2) "Shiose Manju", a red bean manju created in Tokyo in 1349; and (3) "Otemanju", first made in 1837 at Ibe-ya near the Otemon gate of Okayama Castle.
Many people in Japan say that Kashiwaya's Usukawa Manju is a sweet you should try at least once.

Nasukogen Kashiwaya is a bright, clean shop at the Hiroyachi intersection.
When you face the building, the left side is the main shop, which sells boxed manju.

Many delicious-looking Usukawa Manju fill the shelves.
Kashiwaya opened in 1852. The shop has made these manju for over 170 years, and the rich lineup shows this long history.

On the right side of the building, there is a demonstration area. You can watch staff make manju in front of you.

I could taste a freshly steamed manju while it was still hot.
It was very good, and I said so without thinking.
The bean paste is the key point. It is sweet but not too sweet.
It is an easy snack to eat one after another.
