Omaru Onsen Ryokan is a hot spring inn known as a secluded “hidden onsen” located at an altitude of 1,300 meters.
Its most famous bath is “Kawa-no-Yu,” an open-air bath where the hot spring water flows like a river through the tub, letting you feel at one with nature.
In winter, you can enjoy a luxurious soak while gazing out over a beautiful, snow-covered landscape.

年末最終日の雪が降っている時に、何故か山の上まで車で来ているカオリです。
途中でタイヤがスリップしないかとヒヤヒヤでした。
On the last day of the year, with snow falling steadily, I somehow found myself driving all the way up the mountain.
I was nervous the whole way, wondering if the tires might start slipping on the road.
何故こんな所に居るのかと言うと、今日は一年間の疲れを癒しに、噂の秘湯へはるばる訪ねて来たのです。
The reason I came all the way here was to visit this much-talked-about hidden hot spring and soothe away a year’s worth of fatigue.
それは、大丸（おおまる）温泉旅館にある日帰り温泉です。
This day-trip hot spring is located at Omaru Onsen Ryokan.
受付は１５時３０分まででしたが、何とかギリギリ間に合いました。
Reception for day-use bathing ends at 3:30 p.m., but I just barely made it in time.
これが有名な川の湯です。
湧き出た源泉をそのまま露天風呂としているそうです。
露天風呂は混浴ですが、女性には専用の内湯も用意されています。
This is the famous “Kawa-no-Yu.”
The natural spring water flows directly into the open-air bath just as it emerges from the ground.
The open-air bath is mixed-gender, but there is also an indoor bath reserved for women.
あ～気持ち良かったぁ。
いい具合に雪も積もっていて、秘湯の雰囲気が抜群でした。
カオリは気に入ってしまいました。
やっぱり温泉を一番楽しめる季節は冬ですねぇ。
Ahh, it felt amazing!
The snow had piled up just the right amount, giving the place a perfect secluded hot spring atmosphere.
I completely fell in love with it.
Winter really is the best season to enjoy hot springs, isn’t it?

露天風呂には、男女とも受付の時に渡される「緑色の大型のバスタオル」を巻いて入ります。
混浴の露天風呂に、意外と女性も多く入ってくるのにきっと驚くはず。
カオリももちろん、バスタオルを巻いて露天風呂に入りました。
混浴は何となくドキドキしますね～。
In the open-air bath, both men and women wear a large green bath towel, provided at reception, wrapped around their bodies.
You might be surprised by how many women also bathe in this mixed open-air bath.
Of course, I wrapped my towel around myself and went into the outdoor bath too.
There’s something a little bit exciting and heart-pounding about a mixed bath!
