第二次世界大戦中は帰国しましたが戦後再び来日し、多くの名建築を残し優秀な建築家を育てたことで有名です。
アントニン・レーモンドは、日本古来の建築に近代性（＝モダニティ）を見出し、風土や地域性にもとづく近代的な合理性を追求しました。
外から見られるための住宅ではなく、住む人の生活を大切にした、簡素なたたずまいの中の豊かな空間作りを心がけたのです。
アントニン・レーモンドの設計思想を引き継ぐ設計事務所として有名なのがレーモンド設計事務所で、那須高原ではステンドグラス美術館やセントミッシェル教会などを手掛けています。
レーモンド設計事務所では建築依頼があるとお抱えの職人さんすべてを引き連れて全国どこへでも出掛けていくそうです。
