雲巌寺 Unganji Temple
禅宗の日本四大道場のひとつに数えられる名刹で、澄みわたる空気と静寂の世界に心が洗われます。 Unganji Temple has a vivid vermilion arched bridge, neatly swept stone steps, and an old gate with a long history.
It is one of the four major Zen training temples in Japan. The clear air and quiet grounds make visitors feel calm.

あざやかな朱塗りの反り橋ときれいに掃き清められた石段、そして悠久の歴史を湛える山門が造り出す風景に思わず見とれてしまいます。
素晴らしく”日本”を感じさせるバランス感覚です。
I kept looking at the scene of the vivid vermilion arched bridge, the neatly swept stone steps, and the old temple gate.
The balance of these elements gives me a strong feeling of Japan.
石段を登りきって山門をくぐります。
山門内の陰影もまた、ため息が出そうな雰囲気です。
After you climb the stone steps, you pass through the main gate.
The light and shadow inside the gate create a very impressive view.

度重なる焼き討ちの中で、唯一この山門だけは現在まで至っているとのこと。
弘安６年(１，２８３年)、時の執権北条時宗が建立したものです。
I heard that during several fires, only this gate survived until today.
This gate was built in 1283 (Koan 6) by the regent Hojo Tokimune.
芭蕉もこの寺を訪れていて「木啄も庵は破らず夏木立」の句を詠んでいます。
なお、雲巌寺は拝観は自由ですが、観光客向けに整備されたお寺ではありませんのでご注意下さい。
そのかわり、悠久の歴史を五感で感じながら静かな空気を思う存分に味わうことができます。
The haiku poet Matsuo Basho also visited this temple and wrote the verse "Kitsutsuki mo / iori wa kowasazu / natsu kodachi."
Please note that visitors can enter Unganji Temple freely, but it is not arranged for tourists.
Instead, you can enjoy the quiet atmosphere and feel its long history with all your senses.
