雲巌寺1

I kept looking at the scene of the vivid vermilion arched bridge, the neatly swept stone steps, and the old temple gate.
The balance of these elements gives me a strong feeling of Japan.

雲巌寺2

After you climb the stone steps, you pass through the main gate.
The light and shadow inside the gate create a very impressive view.

This famous temple is one of the four major Zen training temples in Japan. It stands in a place with clean air and deep silence.

In this photo, I, Kaori, am praying quietly.

雲巌寺5

I heard that during several fires, only this gate survived until today.
This gate was built in 1283 (Koan 6) by the regent Hojo Tokimune.

The haiku poet Matsuo Basho also visited this temple and wrote the verse "Kitsutsuki mo / iori wa kowasazu / natsu kodachi."
Please note that visitors can enter Unganji Temple freely, but it is not arranged for tourists.
Instead, you can enjoy the quiet atmosphere and feel its long history with all your senses.

I have heard that in autumn, the vermilion arched bridge, stone steps, gate, and autumn leaves create a wonderful view. I would like to see it myself one day.
Please visit Unganji Temple and feel the slow and quiet flow of time.
